THE DONOR ROI

Political money doesn't buy influence in the abstract. It buys documented, traceable outcomes. This series follows three specific donations to three specific returns: a map, a contract, and a confirmation, each one a line item in this site's institutional ledger.

Reading rule: a donation is not a theory. Every dollar figure below is sourced to a filing, a disclosure, or reporting on the record. Every "return" named is a specific vote, ruling, or contract, not an inference about motive.

Second to None

Adam Kincaid runs the trust that drew Texas's map, and three sister organizations besides, and none of them have to tell anyone who pays him. He has a phrase for what redistricting is to a donor. This is who's cashing in on it, on both sides, and the Supreme Court ruling that just made the whole apparatus bigger.

Entry 02

Occupancy

A former GEO Group executive now runs the federal agency that decides how many people GEO gets paid to detain. CoreCivic just sold four former prisons to the government for $1.6 billion, or $307,000 a bed, and kept the contracts to run them. The president's own ethics filing shows he personally holds and trades stock in GEO Group, CoreCivic, and Palantir: the kind of exposure every other modern president avoided, either with a blind trust or by keeping to holdings too simple to raise the question. This is who's collecting as immigration detention becomes the only growing number in the American prison system, and the honest answer to who profits from one Ohio community's most politically charged case isn't the company most people would guess.

Entry 03

No Return

Barre Seid gave Leonard Leo's network $1.6 billion in a single gift, the largest political donation in American history, to build the machine that selects and confirms federal judges. The Judicial Crisis Network spent $10 million putting Amy Coney Barrett on the Supreme Court. Weeks before this piece was reported, she wrote the ruling against the network's own side.

About the series

The Donor ROI is a three-part series on the money behind three specific documented actions in this site's institutional ledger. Each entry follows one donor's dollars to one traceable outcome: who paid, what they got, and what it cost the people on the other end of it.
